1918 Registered Mail
A World War I registered letter posted at ‘TALBOT ST / 12 FE / 18 /DUBLIN’ to U.S.A. with ‘OPENED BY / CENSOR / 1947’ censor tape at left applied in England. New York receiving backstamp dated March 8 and a straight line date ‘MAR 9 1918’ presumably applied by recipient.

As with many other things, the cost of registration increased after being artificially held low. By 1978, the rate had reached 1/9 – even so, a bargain since the envelope was included.
