Colorano First Day Covers [211]
COLORANO FIRST DAY COVERS OF IRELAND
I find Colorano “silk” first day covers, or simply Coloranos, especially attractive. Colorano cachets are four color cachets, printed on a silk-like fabric, and bonded to the envelope. With a few exceptions the cachet is 58mm wide by 72mm high. The illustration is bordered by a gold frame formed by strips that are about 1mm wide and about 1 mm away from the illustration. The border is broken at the top by a title. The first Coloranos date to 1971, but this article is about the Coloranos of Ireland.
Colorano silk First Day Covers were produced for most stamps issued by the Ministry of Post and Telegraphs [or P&T] and An Post during 1979 and 1986, for a total of 179 Colorano FDCs. Several covers, one of which is shown below, have more than one stamp.
A small selection of Coloranos is presented here.
