Voting is a right, privilege and duty of a citizen in a democratic society. In Ireland, the Post Office becomes involved in the process by transferring information to and from citizens to the voting authority. Several notable items are:

1. Voter registration – The Post Office conveys information to the authorities to enter a person on voter’s roles. (Figure 1).

2. Location of the polling place and times. (Figure 2). Note it is mailed without stamps as official mail.

3. In Ireland, the three major universities elect  senators based on the voting of their graduates. Candidate information is sent by government paid mail to the university graduates. (Figure 3). Ballots are sent by registered mail and returned to the university for counting. (Figure 4).
